As unlikely as it may sound, we need to be prepared, as best we can for emergencies and disasters. This is not something that we want to think about, but more and more, we are faced with these situations.
By starting ahead of time, you can be prepared. For instance, one week or month, you may want to purchase oil burning lamps. These are a necessity when all the lights go out, and you have no other alternative methods of having light in your home. Some times the lights may not come back on for a week or more in a disaster.
Preparing For Modern Day Disasters
The following week or month, stock up on canned meats and vegetables. Buy something that will be easy to open and prepare, since you may be limited on cooking.
You may also want to start purchasing bottled water, since water is not always safe or available during an emergency or disaster.
Buy charcoal and a charcoal grill. Don’t forget to get the fluid and matches.
You will also need to stock up on paper plates, plastic silver ware, and napkins. Crackers and peanut butter are good snack foods to keep on hand.
Keep all your disaster foods and supplies in a separate area if possible. If not, then try not to use those items designated for this purpose. If you do use them, replace them as soon as possible.
Keep all your phone numbers, medications, and medical supplies in a place that is easy to get to. You just never know when you may have to leave home, and take shelter elsewhere.
If you have ever been through a disaster, then you know basically what the grocery store will look like, when you attempt to buy items at the last minute.
It can be devastating. Take precautions, and buy ahead of time. Only buy those things, that your family will actually eat.Share With Your Friends
